There are few things in this world as powerful as Mary J. Blige's voice. That's why I am so excited and looking forward to her "The London Sessions" album. After the first single produced by Disclosure, Mary unveiled a new track today that was produced by none other than Naughty Boy and Emeli Sandé. "Whole Damn Year" is an emotional R&B track about getting back on your feet after being betrayed and lied to. The trust you had in people is gone and it takes a while before the walls that have been put up, come back down again. Sounds like an Emeli Sandé penned track to me! Besides the backstory, this song doesn't need any more words. Mary J., that's all I'm saying. UPDATE : Queen Mary J. just keeps on slaying! Yet another tearjerker surfaced on the interwebz, written by crooning wunderkind Sam Smith this time. "Therapy" keeps it simple by being built around doo-wop style backing vocals and a smooth guitar. This track would be perfect as a duet between Mary and the late Amy Winehouse! Listen to both emotional songs below. |
