Yesterdaynight, THE musical moment of the year had finally arrived! Endlessly talked about last year due to Miley Cyrus' twerking scandal with Robin Thicke, but this year it was all about Queen Bey! Mrs Carter took home the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award and to prove how much of a QUEEN she actually is, Bey performed her entire visual album in 15 minutes. Yes, because she's just FIERCE like that. Everybody take notes, because this is how it's done! And next to it being her night, daughter Blue Ivy Carter also managed to steal the show with her cuteness overload, even copying some of mommy's dancemoves while sitting on daddy Jay Z's lap. At the end of Bey's acceptance speech, we even got a "Yeeeeey mommy" out of Destiny's Child! So let's just all cut the crap and FINALLY put these divorce rumors to rest. The couple is clearly stronger than ever and not even some silly tabloid talk can tear them apart. Luckily, the press still has the Mariah Carey/Nick Cannon divorce to salivate over. You can enjoy and watch Her Royal Highness Queen Bey's performance below! |
In all the Beyoncé commotion, you'd almost forget there were other artists performing that night as well. You can watch their performances after the jump! |
None of them were nearly as important as Yoncé, but you know, I still need to mention them :p For starters there was the epic opening number that had Ariana Grande, Jessie J and Nicki Minaj take the stage for a superb medley of their summer hits AND a rendition of "Bang Bang" in the end. Which takes me seemlessly to the most talked about moment of the night (next to Bey's awesomeness) : Nicki's stellar wardrobe malfunction! Staged or not, she got what she came for: her Miley Moment that got everyone talking. Watch the trio rock it out below. |
And the amazeballs performances just kept on going, as Iggy Azalea and Rita Ora brought their vivacious curves to the VMA stage to perform "Black Widow". I loved the whole setting with the spiderwebs and errrrthang (suck on that, Tobey Maguire!) and Iggy's curves looked GORGE as usual. Those sparkly, spidery leotards ware ace as well. Go get'em ladies! |
And the Worst Dance Award of the night goes to none other than Taylor Swift! The country cutie took us back to the flapper era, with a choreo heavy performance that mostly showcased the dancers' talents, not hers. I'll be the first to protest the myth that white girls can't dance, but Taylor just proved that this prejudice contains some amount of truth. Oh well, A for effort, though. Watch her performance of "Shake It Off" below. |
