Next to Lorde and Kimbra, BROODS are one of my favourite Kiwi's in music. The brother-sister duo made quite the entrance with the lovely, moody "Bridges" and now they have a new EP in the works called "Evergreen". The lead single off the record, "Mother & Father", premiered today and it's some powerfull stuff, I can tell you that! It's a melancholical song about growing up and leaving the nest, but leaving your mum and dad in the process as well. Maturing is never easy and letting go of that safe environment is probably the hardest part. The song consists of a solid marching beat, a clear feel of melancholy and even a bit of despair. It's total heartbreak from start to finish and the chorus really rubbs it in :"I don't wanna wake up lonely, I don't wanna be just fine". That's exactly how I felt when I moved out and I still do feel like that sometimes. Aaah, I love it when music talks about reality and touches my deepest emotions... UPDATE: I've now added the music video for the track! The black and white visual is hauntingly beautiful, basically only showing close-ups of the siblings. Watch below. |
